From the Multiple awarded creator of the Burnout series arrives BLACK, A game inspired by the maximum and most high noisy action movies. Here you take use of insane massive guns in the most destructive action you ever have seen. engage your enemies with cruched glass, exploding items - cars, yes even by entire buildings! Black are gong to capture the fps phalange to.
If you upload the anger, the intesity and the explosions from Burnout and put it in a FPS shooter, you will gett Black. It's simple. It absolutely stinks Criterion. Only the envelope tells you everything you have to know about Black. The Black sting logotype is lying with bend bulletholes in it selfs, bury under a sheet of brass sparking bullets.
WEAPON PORN
The weapon porn extend as a lubricated ammunition belt through the entire Black. Not for a second you can think something else, It's the shooting iron who properly is the main character. Black is dusty and crappy like a chinese opium den, and the intensive battles in city environment warp with all it's sense before you can think of it. There is'nt a silent second during the first missions in Black. I suppose that Criterion attempt to make a God of War effect by throw on to with all powder they have allready in the opening. In fifteen minutes i have unpicked a score of enemy bodys with a braying machine gun. I have blown up a dozen of cars and empty more several virtual magazines than i did in 2005. Even if i haven't notised it before it had not been sush hard to figure out that Black comes from the development crew that raised the chrome crimple to a vulgar studious poetry with the Burnout-sequel.
After an hour in the hot air i ascertain that i react the same on Blacks total action overdose as i always did in Burnouts hardcore crash moments.
it's in smal sessions very entertaining, but you get feed constant by big spoons that everything pretty fast loses the taste. If Black should distribute in five minute dose i should never have enough. Like it's just to mush. The enemies dances balett in the air and thow them selfs for cover in the merest provocation. All effects is grotesque overblown. That you actually can hear the bullet cut through enemies body ( it sound like a punch of a fist in a beat ' em up ) just after a split-second after it has been discharge. As the enemies hurl away like they been hit by a splint cargo train when they die - readily down for the closest precipice , even if it mens they have to throw the self one meter to even get near the edg. Shot a crate, a safe or a laptop and it will explode. Hit a chair and it wont move att all.
A reply you have heard many times is Blacks feeling of weight are so succsesful that it should be fun to been thrown in to a empty room with free access to all weapons. That should i want to deny for you all here and now. The weapons feels great, pare together with the silly sound effects and the enemies notable reaktions on one's avtion it all gets parodic raher than dramatic. To put this in to some sort of context i should glad spend a weak in a room with a pare of weapons and ulimited number of enemies in Halo. The frame in Black is not simply on long ways like solid.
MY NAME IS RAMBO, JHON RAMBO
The premise that Black is based on is faily faint and not quite limpid. You accept the role as a member of a special force as prime Rambo style you should go through with violent missions behind enemy lines. After a pair of missions gets a notorious terrorist, an before this american spy by name Lennox, My main objective. Between me and him stands 1000 soldiers that just waiting to get a bullet in the groin and still more buildings that nothing more wants me to throw a granade in to them.
The recipe that Criterion have boil togther is not unique or original but alas so entertaining. That makes it so succsesful is the use of sound, explosions and intensity - Is what Criterion do best.
The weapon arsenal is off course rather juicy and every weapon is accurate sculpture in hummify steal. The audio press from a machine gun with 20 rounds is almost a stunning drug. But it's little hard with it, when it sounds like a thunderbolt every time i squeeze the trigger on the games most complaint pistol. The tremendous annoying filter that makes the bakgrounds blurred in the realoding sequence ( an unsuccessful attempt to create a depth of focus effect ) appertain to the more flagrant examples upon Criterion is still prioritize pork before funktion. It's when the heat is turn down when the more pretty brushstroke gets alive.
Rattle boots, whiping chopperblades, disant musketry, complaining wind, crackel fire. The Sunlight that lays and bubbles over a jagged horizon.
But from diffrence to Bungie and Valve is Criterion in stress between the facedown and done it's best to throttle all breathing space with more explosions. It's seldom you can chew together you teeths, sigh and reload before the crosshair turns red by the next wave of enemies. If you should get a spare time to breath, is the dull of summon the same a the thick gunpowder smoke. The Contrasts between the levels is impressive - the second mission takes place in foggy forest in soviet. the third serves a sniper duell around grave stones and proceeds in wartorned shantytown with entrenchment. But within the the very missions the ai is strain and the dynamic battles is even monochrome spectrum as Doom. Don't mistake me, my heart ache for oldschool shoters that less other games in the genre, But Blacks tracing train stops at the effects instead by getting the perfect level desingn and balance by it's forefathers.
BLACK MOVIE GAME
It has been talking alot about that Black has deliver action prime scenes in the same class as Hollywoods most bacony blockbusters. I dont understand whay people wants it to something positive. I need another game like 24, Alias or the lobby scene in The Matrix. Put in story and mount and this is a lobotomize Hollywood movie. i dont buy that you should have a higer tolerance for it jus because it's about a game.
THE LAST STAND
Black is a game that attepmt to create a atmosphere of almost constant action, an inferno of smoke, gunplay and flying grout. And they success always every time by creating an environment of none stop action, where you never know were you gona get the next health pack from. The game is sometimes difficult , when the enemies take alot of punishment and never give up, but you never feel that the ai is a bigger threat.
Black parody - very likely partly unaware - it more cliché overloaded action genre with smal shrewd jokes that unfortunately is to few and sprawly.
It had beenmore fun if Criterion had take just a few more steps more on that point. As it is now this is a competent , but bare a creative action title, however in between share out it's adrenaline kicks with litle to easy means.
In the skeleton is Black nothing more than nine levels long corridors, straight as a Them Park ride through heedful modeld coulisse and particular process action sequence. The disaster is imprssive, but i also measure the fps by the speed and dynamic in the battlesystem
If we look at the very game mecanic is Black precise what the envelope promise, a Bimbo strong as lead , steriodshooter with a vanished brain
An fps game with baby brother complex buried under brass sparking bullets. Criterion is as always brave to simulate disaster, but they can't still manage to build a interest game around them.
Shoot, Shoot, Run, Run, Cover, Shoot, Run, Shoot, Cover, Shoot, Shoot !
